Semperit Tyres turns 120 years old.
Since 1906, Semperit Tyres have been reliably accompanying people on their journeys – through all seasons and across generations. In 2026, we celebrate our 120th anniversary. To mark this occasion, we would like to present a brief overview of some important milestones in our history and show how we are continuing to build on the brand's success with strong grip, innovative strength and a clear vision of the future.
The name is derived from Latin – semper it (‘it always goes’).
Semperit develops high-quality tyres that are made for demanding conditions. Whether for cars, trucks, buses or vans, we stand for strong performance in all weather conditions and in every area of usage. This is how we show who we are and what we stand for. And we have been doing so on our journey for more than a century.
Start of production of modern pneumatic tyres for commercial vehicles
In the 1920s, there was a growing need to fit the right tyres to the rims of motor vehicles, which were becoming larger, heavier, and faster.
To meet this demand, tyres were manufactured for different purposes: for coaches and transport, as well as for difficult road conditions.
Winter is inseparable from Austria. The engineers at Semperit thought the same in 1936 when, after successfully producing car tires for various automobile models, they recognized that tyres suitable for the different weather conditions prevalent in this country were also necessary.
For this reason, Semperit introduced “GOLIATH” in 1936, the company’s first winter tyre.
This year marks another remarkable milestone: 90 years of winter tires.
Integration into Continental – Combined expertise of two tyre manufacturers.
An important milestone was the integration of Semperit into the Continental Group in 1985. This enabled the merger of the core competencies of two leading European manufacturers. Since then, Semperit has benefited from the experience of a leading European tyre manufacturer with a high level of technological expertise.
Launch of AllSeason tyres on the market
In the PLT and van segments, we began all-season production in 2020 and launched our ALLSEASON-GRIP and VAN-ALLSEASON tyres on the market.
We then introduced the ALLSEASON-GRIP 2 in 2025 and expanded our range in the passenger car sector to include larger sizes. This successfully completed our portfolio, and we are continuously working to develop it further every day.
We have been gathering experience for 120 years. And yet we are still consistently looking ahead.
